Find the Sales Manager Behind Account Executive Job Ads

Ad Call reads the live account executive ads in your city and hands back, for each company, the front-line sales manager who most likely owns the req: name, title, email and office line, graded by confidence, with how long the territory has been open. You call the person whose number is short, not a recruiting coordinator.

A sales manager with an open territory is watching a number go unmade every day. You're calling about their number, not your candidate.

Who owns an account executive req

The AE's future boss is the front-line sales manager: the person whose team quota includes the empty territory. The BLS describes sales managers as the people who recruit, hire and train new members of the sales staff and set sales goals and monitor progress toward them, which is exactly the job description of the person you want on the phone. The CRO or VP of Sales approved the headcount months ago in a planning spreadsheet; they are not the buyer for one AE. At a small company with one sales team, the VP may be the front-line manager, and then they are your call.

What Ad Call gives you for an account executive ad

For AE ads Ad Call puts the front-line sales manager first and the second-line manager beside them. The signals tell you how much bookings pressure is behind the ad: days the territory has been open, reposts, and whether the company is hiring several AEs at once, which usually means a new quarter's headcount just landed.

Why call today
  • A month without an AE means the territory's pipeline isn't being built, and next quarter's number is already at risk.
  • Three AE ads at once points to new headcount, and a manager under pressure to show it's filled.
  • Posting the quota and earnings means the company is serious and your candidate can self-qualify before you pitch.

Best time to contact an account executive hiring manager: read the quarter

A sales manager's calendar is the fiscal quarter. Many companies run a fiscal year that isn't the calendar year, so check before you plan around January or July. Then use the quarter like this.
First two to three weeks of a quarterThe best window. Territories and quotas were just set, new headcount was just approved, and the manager has room to think about next quarter. Pitch now.
Mid-quarter, Tuesday to ThursdayGood, but work around the weekly forecast or pipeline review (often early in the week). Late morning or mid-afternoon after internal meetings clears.
Final two to three weeks of the quarterThe dead zone. Every conversation is about closing deals. Your email gets archived and your call is an interruption. Log the ad and wait.
The last month of the fiscal yearWorse still, with one exception: next year's headcount is being fought for. A short email noting you have a proven AE ready for the new year can land in the planning conversation.
When the ramp math bitesThe Bridge Group's 2026 AE research put average ramp time at 6.2 months, the highest in its study history. An AE hired late in a quarter won't be fully productive until two quarters later, so a manager looking at next year's plan is already late. Say that gently; they know it.

Account executive recruiter tips: what sales managers actually believe

Sales managers hear more pitches than almost any other hiring manager, including from their own team. These are the assumptions that get a recruiter's call cut short.
MythAny AE who “hit quota” is a strong candidate.
RealityManagers want the denominator: percentage of plan, the size of the quota, how many quarters in a row, and rank on the team. Context matters because hitting plan isn't the norm. The Bridge Group found that 48% of AEs met quota in its 2026 research, down from 51% in 2024.
Myth“We only hire from competitors” ends the conversation.
RealityIt usually means “we can't afford a long ramp.” Offer the next-best thing: someone who sold to the same buyer, at the same deal size, with a similar sales cycle. And remember competitor hires can come with restrictive covenants the manager will need to check.
MythJunior reps are an easy placement because they're cheaper.
RealityCompanies are asking for more experience, not less: the Bridge Group reported that required experience at hire reached 3.7 years in 2026, nearly double 2022. Pitch the experienced candidate first.
MythGo to the CRO; they'll push it down.
RealityA candidate that arrives from the CRO feels like an order, not a choice, and the front-line manager has to live with the hire. Start with the manager who will coach them.
MythSales managers hate cold calls.
RealityThey hate bad ones. A manager who spends the day coaching discovery calls will often respect a tight, well-researched call more than an email. Make yours the example.

The attainment-first email

Lead with the number, then the evidence, then the fit. Sales managers read email like a deal review: what's the size, what's the proof, what's the next step?
SubjectMid-market AE: 3 straight quarters over plan, sells to freight ops leaders
Kevin,

Your mid-market AE ad has been up about a month, so I'll be direct. I'm representing an AE who finished the last three quarters at 1.12x, 1.04x and 1.21x of plan on a $900K annual quota, ranked second of eight on her team, and sells to the same buyer you do: operations leaders at mid-size logistics companies. Average deal around $45K, 60 to 90 day cycle.

She can walk you through her closed-won list in a first call, and she's in two other processes.

Worth 20 minutes this week, or should I send it through your recruiting team?

The subject line is the pitch. The body answers the three questions a sales manager asks about any AE: how big, how consistent, and does it transfer to my buyer. The closing offers a recruiting-team route so you're never going around anyone. Ad Call gives you the manager's name and address in the results; the numbers have to come from your candidate, and they have to be real.

The call: open with their territory, not your candidate

Sales managers pick up their own phones more often than most hiring managers. Earn the next 60 seconds in the first ten.
Sales managerKevin Oduya.
YouKevin, Jordan Pace, I recruit quota-carrying sellers in Denver. I'm calling about the mid-market territory you've had open for a month. Do you have 45 seconds?
Sales managerGo ahead.
YouI'll guess, and you tell me if I'm wrong: that territory's pipeline is thinning, and whoever's covering it is protecting their own number first.
Sales managerMore or less. We're interviewing though.
YouThen I'll only send one person. Three quarters over plan on a $900K number, same buyer as yours, and she can show the closed-won list. If she's not better than your current finalist, I'll stop calling.
Sales managerSend it. If it's real I'll talk to her Thursday.
YouWithin the hour. And if your recruiting team needs to paper it, tell me who and I'll copy them.
You opened with the manager's problem, made a falsifiable claim about their territory, promised one candidate instead of a stack, and handed them an easy exit. That is also how good AEs prospect, which the manager notices.

Quota-carrying AE recruiting: SaaS, field and everything called “Account Executive”

The title covers very different jobs, and a manager will reject a candidate from the wrong one in a sentence. Read the ad for these tells before you pitch:

Match the motion first, the industry second. An AE who sold a $40K annual contract to an operations buyer in a 60-day cycle transfers across industries far better than one who sold something unrelated in the same industry. Ad Call shows which companies are hiring several AEs at once and how long each territory has been open, so you know which managers are feeling the quarter. Run your market free.

Questions recruiters ask about account executive reqs

Who is the hiring manager for an account executive job?

The front-line sales manager whose team the AE joins: usually titled Sales Manager, Inside Sales Manager, or Manager, Inside Sales. The second-line senior manager approves; the VP of Sales or CRO sets headcount. At small companies with one team, the VP may be the hiring manager.

When should I avoid contacting a sales manager?

The final two to three weeks of the fiscal quarter, and the weekly forecast meeting. The first weeks of a new quarter are the best time, when territories are set and new headcount is fresh.

How do sales managers verify an AE's quota attainment?

Practices vary. Many ask for percentage of plan by quarter, quota size, team rank and awards, and probe consistency in interviews and references. Coach candidates to have the numbers ready, and never inflate them for a pitch: a manager will ask in the first interview.

What do sales managers want to know about an AE candidate?

Deal size, sales cycle, buyer, attainment over several quarters, and how fast they ramped at their last company. With ramp times long (the Bridge Group reported 6.2 months on average in 2026), evidence of a quick ramp is one of the strongest points you can make.
