Quality Engineer Hiring Manager Contact, Matched to the Audit They Have to Pass
Ad Call reads the live quality engineer ads in your market and hands back, for each plant and company, the quality manager most likely to own the req: name, title, email and office line, graded by confidence, with days open and reposts. You reach the person with the audit on their calendar, not the plant's HR generalist.
The quality manager's worst week is the week the auditor arrives. The req was posted months earlier.

The quality manager owns the quality engineer req. Quality reports separately from production in most certified plants so that the people shipping parts are not the people approving them, which is why the production manager is the wrong call even though they will interview the candidate. At a larger company a director or senior manager of quality approves headcount across sites. At a small shop the lone quality manager, or the plant manager or owner where no quality manager exists, is the hiring seat: call them directly.
- Quality Technician / Quality Inspector leadWorks for the QE and knows which audits and customer complaints are piling up. No hiring authority.
- Quality Manager / Quality Assurance Managerusually owns the reqOwns the req and the audit. Screens for the exact standard the plant is certified to.
- Senior Manager, Quality / Senior Manager, Quality AssuranceApproves headcount across plants or product lines. Call when several sites post QE ads at once.
- Plant Manager / General ManagerOwns the req at a small plant with no quality manager. Otherwise interviews for fit, doesn't decide.
- Director / VP of QualitySets the certification roadmap. Useful when a company is adding a new standard (a first IATF or AS9100 certification).
What Ad Call gives you for a quality engineer ad
For quality engineer ads Ad Call leads with the quality manager at that plant, adds the plant manager when the site is small, and flags the standard the ad names (ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF 16949, ISO 13485 or FDA). Days live and reposts tell you how close the audit is getting.
- A corrective action backlog plus 'immediate need' usually means an audit finding or a customer escape with a response deadline.
- AS9100 and first article inspection are specific, testable skills; a candidate with both is an easy meeting.
- Six weeks open in an aerospace shop means the quality manager is closing corrective actions personally.
ISO 9001 quality engineer recruiting: why audits drive the req
A certified plant lives on an audit cycle. Under the accreditation rules certification bodies follow (ISO/IEC 17021-1), the certification cycle runs three years from the certification decision, with surveillance audits at least once a calendar year except in recertification years and the first surveillance no more than 12 months after certification (IAS summary of ISO/IEC 17021-1, section 9). Every one of those dates is a deadline the quality manager owns, and every major nonconformity is a corrective action someone has to close.
That is why QE reqs cluster. Three triggers show up again and again: an upcoming surveillance or recertification audit with open findings, a new certification the company needs to win a customer (a first IATF 16949 or AS9100 certificate), and a customer escape, where a defect reached the customer and the corrective action is due on the customer's clock.
2026 adds two more. ISO 9001:2026 was published on September 16, 2026, and DNV reports that ISO 9001:2015 certificates will cease to be valid after 30 September 2029. Every ISO 9001 site now has a transition project to plan. And for medical device makers, the FDA's Quality Management System Regulation took effect February 2, 2026, rewriting 21 CFR Part 820 and incorporating ISO 13485:2016 by reference. Quality engineers who can map a quality system to the new requirements are exactly what those managers need this year.
Before you call: match the candidate to the exact standard
Quality managers screen on standards first. A QE from a medical device plant and a QE from an automotive supplier are not interchangeable, and the manager will know in one question.- Name the standard in the ad: ISO 9001 (general), AS9100 (aerospace), IATF 16949 (automotive), ISO 13485 and FDA's QMSR (medical devices). Your candidate's last plant should match or be one step away.
- Automotive core tools: for IATF 16949 plants, AIAG lists APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC and control plans. Ask which ones the candidate has owned, not just used.
- Customer-specific requirements: IATF 16949 is applied together with each automaker's customer-specific requirements. A candidate who has handled a particular OEM's requirements is worth mentioning by name.
- Aerospace specifics: first article inspection, configuration control and handling of customer source inspection. These are the words an AS9100 quality manager will test.
- Medical device specifics: design controls, CAPA, complaint handling and a recent FDA inspection or notified-body audit. Ask whether the candidate has been in the room when an inspector was.
- Audit role: did they host external audits, run internal audits, or close findings? The quality manager needs someone who can stand in front of an auditor.
- Corrective action proof: one real 8D or root-cause story, with the result, is worth more than a list of methods.
- Certification: ASQ's Certified Quality Engineer requires eight years of on-the-job experience in the body of knowledge, three of them in a decision-making position, with degrees waiving part of it (four years for a bachelor's). It is a strong signal, not a gate; say so if the candidate has it.
- The audit date: ask the manager when the next audit is. It tells you how fast they need to move and how much ramp time your candidate gets.
Best time to contact a quality engineer hiring manager
Quality managers run to the audit calendar and the production schedule. Use both.Quality engineer recruiting myths
A few assumptions sink quality engineer submittals. What to say in the first 30 seconds
Open with the standard and the problem, not the résumé: "Your ad mentions an AS9100 corrective action backlog. I have a quality engineer who closed a customer escape at an aerospace machine shop and hosted two surveillance audits with no majors." Then ask the question that tells you everything: "When's your next audit?"
An opener that names their standard and their problem stands out from generic recruiter calls. Ad Call puts the quality manager's name and the plant's office line in the results, and shows how long the ad has run. Run your market free.
Questions recruiters ask about quality engineer reqs
- Who hires quality engineers?
The quality manager (or quality assurance manager) at the plant. A director of quality may approve headcount at larger companies. At small plants with no quality manager, the plant manager or owner is the hiring manager.
- What is the best time to contact a quality engineer hiring manager?
Three to six months before an audit, the week after an audit, or right after a customer complaint. Avoid audit week and month-end shipping pushes. Early afternoon, Tuesday through Thursday, is the steadiest time to reach a quality manager by phone.
- How do I find the quality engineer hiring manager's email?
Ad Call reads each quality engineer ad and returns the quality manager most likely behind it, with name, title, email and the plant's office line. Three searches free, no credit card.
- Is the ASQ CQE required for quality engineers?
Usually preferred, not required. The CQE requires eight years of relevant experience (three in a decision-making role), with degrees waiving part of it, so it signals a seasoned engineer.
